Breathing Room

Breathing Room is a longform interview conducted by Nat Marcus with the Berlin-based DJs Lakuti and Tama Sumo. The dialogue took place on October 25th, 2020, with no end in sight to the COVID-19 pandemic and Berlin sliding into another lockdown. The foreclosed horizon (and the very much shuttered state of nightlife) served as a generative point of view for these two veteran figures of dance music to speculate on alternatives to the current state of club culture. The dialogue wends its way through their personal histories and developments as DJs, political pitfalls and social knots they've come to identify in the dance music industry, and the conditions of this culture's ongoing survival.

The interview has been translated in its entirety, with English and German versions starting from opposite covers. This is TABLOID's first fully bilingual publication, and we are happy to step into the language of this city that has held us for the last 8 years.
